Before you hire a custom cabinet maker in Idaho Falls, ask these ten questions. The answers will tell you whether you are dealing with a shop that communicates clearly, prices honestly, and delivers on time — or one that says yes to everything and sorts it out later. Cabinet Farm answers each one directly.
1. How long have you been building cabinets?
Experience matters in cabinetry because most problems do not show up until years after install — doors that rack out of square, finishes that fade unevenly, drawer boxes that fail under daily use. A cabinet maker with real bench experience has seen these failure modes and builds to prevent them.
Cabinet Farm: Our lead cabinet maker has 10+ years of professional cabinet making in eastern Idaho. Every project we place is reviewed by someone who has built hundreds of kitchens from raw material to installed finish.
2. Who actually builds the cabinets?
Some companies you call are dealers who outsource production to a factory. Some are shops that build everything in-house. There is no objectively wrong answer — but you should know who is building your cabinets and where.
Cabinet Farm: We build your cabinets in our own shop. Cabinet Farm is a cabinet maker with 10+ years of professional experience building kitchens from raw material to installed finish. Every cabinet that goes into your home is built by us, to your exact specifications.
3. What are the cabinet boxes made of?
Box construction is where shops cut corners when they need to reduce cost. Plywood boxes are stronger, more moisture-resistant, and hold fasteners better than particle board. Quality shops use 3/4" plywood for box sides and at least 1/2" ply for backs. Particle board is not inherently disqualifying — it is standard in many factory lines — but you should know what you are getting.
Cabinet Farm: All premium builds use plywood box construction. We do not use particle board for structural box components.
4. Are the drawer boxes dovetail?
The dovetail joint — the interlocking fingers you can see at the corner of a quality drawer box — is a mark of craftsmanship. It is stronger than stapled or glued butt joints and lasts significantly longer under daily opening and closing. Ask to see a drawer box if you can.
Cabinet Farm: Dovetail drawer boxes are standard on premium builds and available on all builds. Soft-close undermount drawer slides are standard on every build regardless of tier.
5. What hardware do you use?
The hinges and drawer slides matter as much as the boxes — maybe more, since they are what you touch every day. Blum is the industry standard for quality hardware: Austrian-manufactured, widely used in European cabinetry, and the slide used in most premium residential builds. Ask specifically if they use undermount soft-close slides or side-mount.
Cabinet Farm: Blum and equivalent quality hardware throughout. Soft-close on every hinge and drawer slide, standard.
6. What does your pricing include?
Get a clear answer on what is in the quote and what is not. Some shops price cabinets only and add installation separately. Some include delivery but not installation. Some price hardware as a separate allowance. A quote that looks competitive can look very different once you add what is missing.
Cabinet Farm: Our quotes include cabinets, delivery, and installation. Hardware is specified and included in the quote. The number we give you is the number you pay.
7. Do you guarantee the price?
Change orders are how homeowners get surprised at the end of a project. Ask directly: if material costs go up after I sign, who absorbs that? If the install takes longer than expected, does the price change?
Cabinet Farm: We lock in pricing at your estimate. No change orders on the scope we agreed to. If our costs change after you sign, that is our problem — not yours.
8. What is a realistic lead time right now?
The honest answer depends on the shop's current capacity. A shop that is booked out six weeks should tell you that upfront — not quote you four weeks and call at week five to say it will be eight. Ask for a specific commit date, not a range.
Cabinet Farm: We give you a projected timeline at contract signing and track production so you always know where your project stands. One point of contact from estimate to install.
9. Can I see completed projects or references?
A portfolio, references, or a gallery of completed projects in similar styles should be available. If a shop cannot show you comparable work — finished kitchens in the style you want — that is a meaningful gap. References from past customers in Idaho Falls or eastern Idaho are even better.
Cabinet Farm: Our gallery shows completed projects across eastern Idaho. We can also connect you with past clients willing to share their experience.
10. What is your warranty and what happens if something goes wrong?
Ask about the warranty in specific terms: how long does it cover, what does it cover, and what is the process if a hinge fails, a finish chips, or a door goes out of alignment after install.
Cabinet Farm: We stand behind our work. If something goes wrong after install, call us — we come back. Warranty terms are spelled out in your project contract.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I compare quotes from different cabinet makers?
Compare what is included, not just the bottom-line number. Does the quote include installation? Hardware? Delivery? A quote that excludes installation can look 20–30% lower than it actually is. Ask each shop for a line-item breakdown.
Should I get multiple quotes?
Yes — get at least two or three. The quotes themselves will tell you a lot about how each shop communicates and whether their pricing is transparent. A shop that cannot give you a specific locked-in number is telling you something.
What is the biggest red flag when hiring a cabinet maker?
Vague pricing and no written contract. Any shop that says "it depends" when you ask what the price is, or cannot give you a clear timeline, is setting you up for a frustrating experience. Get everything in writing before you pay a deposit.
Is Cabinet Farm licensed and insured?
Yes. Cabinet Farm carries general liability insurance and coordinates all required permits with your contractor or general contractor.
Can I visit a showroom to see your work?
Cabinet Farm does not operate a traditional showroom. We bring samples to your home during the estimate appointment, and our gallery shows completed Idaho Falls and eastern Idaho projects. Call us to schedule an estimate — seeing your actual space is more useful than a showroom visit anyway.
