A custom cabinet project in eastern Idaho takes 4–6 weeks from signed contract to install day for most kitchen and bathroom projects. The install itself takes 1–3 days depending on the scope. Here is what happens during those weeks, what affects your timeline, and why Cabinet Farm is willing to put the install date in writing.
The Full Timeline, Week by Week
Week 0 — Estimate and Contract
You request a free in-home estimate. We come to your home, measure your space, discuss your style, hardware, and timeline, and give you a locked-in quote. Once you sign the contract and pay the deposit, the project is officially started and your production slot is reserved.
Weeks 1–4 — Production
Your cabinets go into production in our shop. This is where most of the lead time lives. Custom cabinets are not pulled from inventory — they are built to your exact dimensions, in your chosen species and finish, from scratch. A painted shaker kitchen requires different production time than a frameless flat-panel build in walnut veneer. We track production status throughout this phase and flag anything that could affect your install date before it becomes a problem.
Week 4–5 — Quality Review and Delivery Prep
Before cabinets are delivered, they are inspected for finish consistency, dimension accuracy, and hardware function. Any issues — a door that is off-square, a finish flaw, a missing component — are caught and corrected here, not at your home. Delivery is coordinated for 1–2 days before the install date to give your home a brief staging period.
Week 5–6 — Installation
Installation day. For a standard kitchen, plan for 1–3 days of install time. Smaller jobs — a single vanity, a closet system, a laundry room — typically wrap in a day. Large kitchens with islands, pantry towers, and extensive upper runs take 2–3 days. After install, we walk through every cabinet with you.
What Affects Lead Time
Project complexity. A single bathroom vanity moves through production faster than a full kitchen with an island, pantry, and crown molding. Inset cabinetry takes longer to produce than overlay — the tolerances require more fitting time in the shop.
Finish type. High-gloss lacquer finishes require additional dry and cure time between coats. Unusual paint colors may require a custom tint mix. Two-tone kitchens add one more production step. Standard painted and stained finishes run on predictable timelines.
Shop capacity. This is the factor most cabinet shops do not address honestly. If a shop is at capacity, your job waits. Cabinet Farm gives you an honest timeline based on our actual current production schedule — not an optimistic number designed to get you to sign. If anything changes, we tell you before it affects your install date.
Your site readiness. Cabinets can only be installed when the space is ready. New construction needs the rough framing, electrical, and plumbing roughed in before cabinet install. Remodels need demo complete and walls patched. If your site is not ready on install day, we reschedule — and we work with you to make sure the timing lines up.
How Long Does Cabinet Installation Take?
The install itself — from first cabinet box to hardware on the last door — depends entirely on scope:
- Single bathroom vanity: 4–6 hours
- Small kitchen (under 15 linear feet): 1 day
- Standard kitchen (15–25 linear feet): 1–2 days
- Large kitchen with island and pantry: 2–3 days
- Full home office or entertainment wall built-in: 1–2 days
- Mudroom locker system: 1 day
- Walk-in closet system: 1 day
These are typical ranges. Homes with unusual ceiling heights, out-of-level floors, or complex layouts take longer. We factor site conditions into the install estimate before we commit to a date.
How Cabinet Farm Keeps Projects on Schedule
Cabinet Farm tracks production from the day your job is placed in our shop. We build your cabinets ourselves — one shop, one standard of quality. No handoffs, no chasing down a third-party manufacturer. You have a single point of contact who knows exactly where your project stands at every step.
You get a projected timeline at signing and a single point of contact throughout production. No chasing, no silence, no finding out on install day that something went wrong two weeks ago.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you do a rush order in Idaho Falls?
In some cases, yes — it depends on current shop availability for your specific style and finish. Call us and we will tell you honestly what is possible. We never promise a timeline we cannot hit.
What if my project gets delayed by my contractor?
We coordinate around your schedule. If your rough-in is delayed, your countertop crew moves, or your site is not ready, we adjust the production schedule to match. You will not be charged for delays caused by your general contractor.
How soon after cabinets are installed can countertops be templated?
Usually the next day. Most countertop fabricators want the cabinets fully installed and level before they template. Plan for countertops to arrive 1–2 weeks after your cabinet install.
What happens on install day?
Two installers typically work together — one handles box mounting and leveling, the other handles doors and hardware. Upper cabinets go in first, then lowers. By end of day, all cabinets are mounted, doors are hung, and hardware is installed. We walk through everything with you before we leave.
Does the 7-day guarantee apply to commercial projects?
Rush availability depends on current shop capacity for your specific style and finish. Call us and we will tell you honestly what timeline is realistic for your project.
